After reading over the provided articles regarding precision and personalized nutrition, it is clear that the two concepts are very similar. Precision nutrition is said to consider environmental factors, lifestyle factors and genetic expression when making dietary recommendations. To me, precision implies accuracy or consistency, however, that should be a given when creating dietary recommendations for clients. Precision is imperative when making changes to a client’s diet because there are physiologic effects as a result of these dietary alterations. This is why dietary recommendations should be tailored specific to each client. Taking into account the biopsychosocial model for each client is necessary for appreciating every patient as an individual and treating them as such. In my opinion, personalized nutrition is a better name for this strategy of designing each diet plan specific to each patient depending on genetic expression, environmental and lifestyle factors. Clients may present with similar situations, however, no two patients will be identical. There are many different factors that can impact genetic expression and nutrition is one of them. More research needs to be done before dietary recommendations can be made based on genetic response. This will allow a more individualized approach as nutritionists will be able to apply more information that can help narrow down the most optimal diet choices. If a client presents in a prediabetic state, then there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration such as familial history for example. If someone has a family history of diabetes or cardiovascular disease, then they are likely predisposed to these conditions. Knowing about this individual’s relationship between nutrition and genetic expression would enable providers to develop more accurate dietary recommendations. In addition to genetic expression, looking at the clients lifestyle factors and environmental factors will provide further information as to what could be contributing to their condition.

Have you thought about the link between sleep disorders, inflammation and chroni

Have you thought about the link between sleep disorders, inflammation and chronic disease? There is fantastic evidence linking sleep disorders to a rise in inflammatory cytokines and an increased risk for chronic pathologies such as cardiovascular disease. A 56 year old male patient presents with sleep apnea (in which he uses a CPAP machine), cardiovascular disease (diagnosed 6 years ago) and joint pain. He read on the internet that Hops is effective for sleep apnea. His brother who has a similar condition was prescribed L-trytophan (at a dose of 4 grams/day) which he insists is effective. The patient comes to you (the nutritional expert) wondering which advice he should take from either of these two questionable sources. Considering the inflammatory mediators that we have covered over the last two weeks in lecture, make a case for your side of this debate to illustrate why it is the preferred treatment option.
PLEASE WRITE THE DEBATE SIDING WITH L-TRYPTOPHAN!

Personal Statement: The letter should be in the business format of your choice a

Personal Statement: The letter should be in the business format of your choice and, at a minimum, include the date, address, salutation, and closing signature. The letter must be 1-2 pages in length, word-processed, size 12 font, and double-spaced with one-inch margins. Following the business letter format, address the letter to the program director. Include the following information in the personal statement:
1. Describe your reasons for selecting dietetics as a profession.
2. Describe why you think you will be an effective dietitian.
3. Why is EMU your school of choice?
Personal information about myself:
School: Currently at Eastern Michigan University applying for a Dietetics program.
Experiences: I was interested in Health and diet and nutrition because of family cancer history. My uncle was diagnosed with colon cancer as well as my grandmother. My dad has cholesterol and blood pressure problems. My mom and I both suffer from digestive problems. I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis in High school which caused alot of symptoms such as vomiting, weight loss and alot of pain. I couldn’t eat many things and was put on a strict liquid and pureed diet. That made me realize the importance of nutrition and what we put in our body. Most of my life (starting from high school) revolved around doing alot of research and experimenting with food in order to try to get better and improve my gastroparesis. This sparked my interest and I developed alot of knowledge in nutrition. I think my experiences would help me connect with many people who struggle throughout the same things. My experiences would make me into a better dietitian because I developed a strong passion to helping people understand the importance of nurturing our body and taking care of our diet, and not following myths and diet trends that tend to do more damage than good. EMU university would be a good choice because in Michigan, there arent many universities that offer a dietetics program except for 2 in my area. I chose EMU because it is known to have a good program and I can be on campus rather than online.
